The Orillia Opera House Dance Festival
is operated under the City of Orillia, Department of Culture and Heritage.

CLASSIFICATIONS

Pre-Competitive
Students who attend no more than two classes per week for a total of not more that 4 hours of instruction.

Novice
Students who have NEVER competed in that Style or Category of dance in any competition prior to January 1st, 2011.  A Novice Group must be 80% Novice dancers.  Solos, Duets and Trios must be 100% Novice.

Open
Students who have competed before but have never been paid for performing on a regular basis and are not receiving in excess of $7,000.00 per year for teaching dance lessons.

Professional
Dancers who have been paid for performing on a regular basis or who are receiving in excess of $7,000.00 per year for teaching dance lessons.  A professional participant may NOT compete in ANY Pre-Competitive, Novice or Open classes and is NOT eligible for any awards or scholarships.  EVEN JUST ONE PROFESSIONAL MEMBER OF A GROUP WILL CAUSE THE CLASSIFICATION TO BE “PROFESSIONAL”.
